Tales of Destiny finished!

Tales of Destiny (played on PS1) follows Tales of Phantasia and the story revolves around the main character's son from the previous game. Despite not playing the first but knowing that it involves an RPG role but an action type battle against monsters....it really did not appeal to me as the controls can produce lots of frustration (ie. jumping up and attacking flight enemies is merely possible and it gets on your nerves). Though I decided to give it a shot.

L-R: You, Farah, Keele, Meredy.

Here are some points/characteristics of the gaming layout:

  • 3D movement and background but keeps to the animation style

  • Fighting system is like the arcades (except for jumping) and you collect skills along the way to use. Fighting can be really really messy!!
  • Collect Craymels - typical elemental creatures which allows your magicians to use its elemental powers.

L-R Craymels are: Water, Wind, Fire, Earth, Ice, Lighting.

  • Uses way too many functions to keep up with and sometimes confusing for me lol (menu has: Items, Strategy, Formation, Status, Cook, C.C, Customize, Save). And under those....many other functions!!!
  • One of those games where if you set it aside for a while, you will forget what the names of the city are and what you should do....which is where the help file comes in! You travel between 2 worlds so that's mind boggling.
  • Story is not bad but its very controversial but plain black and white is revealed in the end. To be honest, I am not the least bit excited by the stories in most games...its more like completing the missions for me, collecting items and attaining Craymels to help my quest.
41 and a half hours at Lvl 70 was less than Lunar 2....worth the long hours but in battles...it can be proven to be quite a challenge and I am always up for it. So when it came to bosses, I looked forward to that. I am sorry...but the English voices were way too cocky for me. I wanted the original.

Fighting the last boss with Meteor Swarm - it took eternity to fight the last boss!

Special animation scenes only happened in the beginning and the end; other special animation scenes were 3D (landscape) and was wonderfully constructed.

Recommendation: If you really want to start this game series, be patient with the fighting style if you are a strict RPG gamer, but if you like arcade/action, this game will suit your tastes.

That's all from me.
