Analysis of Zhuo Wen Yuan (卓文远)

Finished watching: "A Female Student Arrives at the Imperial College" or 国子监来个女弟子。

Compared to many dramas I've selectively chosen to watch, this is the first whereby I have no knowledge of all actors but I decided to try out the first episode. It gave light-hearted vibes, comedy and also presented challenges, and mystery-solving. My approach to drama watching nowadays is to not compare on similarities etc. but to go along with the flow and the story, and character development.

After years of not writing in this blog, I had to do this for one character which left the most lasting impression on me - Zhuo Wen Yuan (卓文远)。

!!This post will contain major spoilers!! These are all of my thoughts on the storyline and character build after I've watched the whole drama. So please make sure you finish the series before you continue further. Click on the YouTube link here, and you'll be taken to the drama playlist.

Chuck 1st season!

oh man oh man oh man!!! After finishing the 1st season of "Chuck", I am so hyped up about this show! I don't know why! Maybe it is because of the fact that Chuck is a geek or nerd and he accidentally got caught up in the world of spy agencies and dangerous missions. It is just soooooo funny!! I really want to get season 2 now!!! Can't believe that my dvd inventory now holds "nerds"...haha they are so cool.

Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi) is a socially awkward twenty-something who works as a computer expert at the Nerd Herd at his local Buy More (a parody of "Best Buy"), with his best friend, Morgan Grimes.

On the night of his birthday party, Chuck receives an e-mail from his former Stanford University roommate, Bryce Larkin, who is now a "rogue" CIA agent. When he opens it, an entire server of sensitive data — once only available to the United States government — is subliminally embedded into his brain by way of a long series of images.

Both the National Security Agency and the Central Intelligence Agency want the intelligence returned to them and dispatch agents of their own — Major Sarah Walker and John Casey — to retrieve that data.

Since the disk with the government information was stolen by Bryce and destroyed in his attempted escape, and since Chuck experiences flashes of information from the database activated by certain subliminal triggers, he must use the knowledge he now possesses to help the government thwart assassins and international terrorists — upending his previously uneventful life.

Chuck's decision to keep his newfound occupation a secret from his family and friends and to live his life as normally as possible forces Casey and Walker to establish an uneasy alliance and secret identities (Walker poses as Chuck's girlfriend and takes a cover job at a local restaurant, Wienerlicious while Casey gets a job at Buy More), with the shared goal of protecting Chuck at all costs.

Here are some website links worth checking out and it is related to the series in every way! It is all good fun!! Obviously some parts are under construction because it is a new series and these websites have been newly launched. WHOO!! Chuck even has facebook and myspace etc. so cool! Chuckssecret is the best website haha

Can't wait for the next episode!!! Zachary Levi is really funny in this series!!! Loads of crack ups!

Chuck's chart!! You should go on the website and have a look at it!! But there are major spoilers! Its a really interactive widget! http://www.nbc.com/Chuck/exclusives/chucks-chart/

Due to tough competition against other tv programs such as House, Big Bang Theory, How I met your mother and dancing with the stars during the 8pm Monday time slot in USA, Chuck was on the verge of not picking up for 3rd season! Not to mention the Writer's Guild of America strike. Even though many critics praised the show for its commendable job, where domestic ratings and the number of viewers are heavily .

However, in other parts of the world such as the UK, ratings are coming in top!! So I think that NBC would be disappointing a lot of people if they are unable to broadcast it. People...always in it for money eh? Well that is the real world my friends. In any case, Chuck just picked up for Season 3 and NBC will be releasing it beginning of 2010. It was a huge save thanks to the many Chuck fans out there who dedicated their time and efforts to ensure its restoration.

Please come and support Chuck!! Its a show not to be missed. Even the critics themselves said so~

Mode is here!

I am expressing my gladness for I bought Ugly betty season 1 at a bargain!!! Oh I am stoked! I will watch it when I have nothing else better to do! haha...that is like....never or (ever if you know how lazy I get). This is one of my most favourite television series. The quirks, the snotty brats, the schemes, the silly spasms and lovely camera footage + cinematography is invigorating haha. America Ferrera (Betty Surez) has always been playing those stereotype strong-willed and good-hearted women roles that always perseveres no matter what. She's making a statement! She's a fighter and a champion! You do what you do best~

MODE at my front screen and just a click of the button away. Technology and fashion cannot get any more advanced than that~

90210 fanatic?

GRR!! I have many assignments to do and still got lots to think about. But anyway...I am here to talk about the new 90210.

I don't know why, I love watching drama but don't like to be in it. Most of the time though, a lot of what you watch on screen happens in real life....I really don't know if people want to imitate that kind of lifestyle or adopt the practice unknowingly based upon what has been shown in the media or the fact that the media reflects what we have been known to practise.

If you watch those soap operas, there are many complicated families and relationships circulating in the air. Who backstabbed, betrayed, slept around, in love with how many etc. So what does this mean for production writers in particular? The fact that they will have to incorporate and design scripts to spurs viewers at home to want more?? Plus was the old 90210 drama is as extreme as what the new one is now??

There always seem to be:
  • a drug addict who then becomes pregnant
  • mentally-disordered person
  • a guy who has liked 3 main girls
  • a greedy person living in luxury but with a lot of debt and is the trouble maker
  • good girl becomes the bad girl now

Hmm...the reason why I watch it is because I think that I have my most favourite couple there who has battled through many obstacles. I think people should be more like them.

Pushing Daisies in full bloom

This television series is honestly in my opinion one of the best comedic and thrilling shows that I have ever seen in my entire history of watching TV. This post is uncovering certain booming characteristics of Pushing Daisies (didn't i just say blooming?).

Characters:

Ned (Lee Pace) - Pie Hole owner and pie maker, first love is Chuck
Charlotte "Chuck" Charles (Anna Friel) - Ned's childhood sweetheart neighbour brought back to life by Ned
Emerson Cod (Chi McBride) - Private eye detective, Ned's business partner
Vivian Charles (Ellen Greene) - Chuck's aunt
Lily Charles (Swoosie Kurtz) - Chuck's alleged aunt, later revealed to be her biological mother
Olive Snook (Kristin Chenoweth) - Pie Hole waitress, and "hopelessly devoted" to Ned
Digby - Ned's golden retriever

Plot:
Pushing Daisies centers on the life of Ned, a pie-maker gifted with the mysterious ability to bring dead things back to life by touching them. There are some conditions to this somewhat unusual talent. Ned quickly learns that if something is revived for more than exactly one minute, something of similar "life value" in the vicinity drops dead, as a form of balance. Additionally, if he touches the revived person or thing a second time, it falls dead again, this time permanently.
In the pilot episode, Ned discovers his gift as a child by resurrecting his golden retriever, Digby, after the dog is hit by a truck. He later brings back his mother when she dies of aneurysm. However, in doing this, he accidentally causes the death of the father of his neighbor and childhood sweetheart, Charlotte "Chuck" Charles, as the "price" of keeping his mother alive. Even worse, Ned's mother falls dead permanently when she gives him a good-night kiss (which is how he learns the effect of the second touch).
In their childhood, Ned and Chuck become separated after Chuck's agoraphobic aunts, Vivian and Lily move in to take the role of her parents, while Ned is shipped off by his father to a lonely boarding school.
Inheriting his mother's baking talents, Ned becomes a pie-maker who owns a restaurant called "The Pie Hole", which he runs with the help of waitress Olive Snook (Kristen Chenoweth). The restaurant is failing financially when private investigator Emerson Cod accidentally discovers Ned's gift and offers him a proposal: Ned will bring murder victims back to life, inquire about the circumstances of their untimely death, then touch them once more, all before his set limit of sixty seconds is up. Emerson will then solve the case and they will split the reward money for solving the unanswered questions surrounding the death.
The scheme succeeds until they learn that Chuck, whom Ned hasn't seen since childhood, was murdered while on a cruise ship. When her body is shipped back home, Ned revives her, but can't bring himself to allow her to stay dead by touching her a second time. Against his better judgment, Ned allows her to live and the larcenous funeral home director falls dead in her place. Ned and Chuck fall in love again and he brings her home to live with him under the unique circumstances of their never being able to touch each other. Chuck is extraordinarily grateful upon receiving a second chance at life, and as such she starts to appreciate life as a truly precious resource and Ned, witnessing his vivacious beauty's happiness, begins to break out of his lonely shell.

This is where the fun begins!

Quotes from Pushing Daisies!!!!
The best quotes and in my opinion funny are:

Ned: I asked you not to use the word "zombie." It's disrespectful. Stumbling around squawking for brains? It's not how they do. And "undead"? Nobody wants to be "un"-anything. Why begin a statement with a negative? It's like saying "I don't disagree." Just say you agree.
Emerson: Are you comfortable with "living dead"?
Ned: You're either living or your dead. When you're living, you're alive. When you're dead, that's what you are. But when you're dead and then you're not, you're alive again. Can't we say "alive again"?
Emerson: Well, that idea might make a stupid idea feel better about itself.

Emerson: We are giant, enormous idiots. And don't you say "gi-normous" because that ain't a word.

Olive: There are Commandments! We follow all ten, and I am commanding you to stop!

Emerson: Your book was a bomb.
Napoleon: Who are you to criticize my life's work?!
Emerson: Your book was a bomb. It exploded.

Ned: Do you know you have a "tell" when you lie?
Olive: Do I?
Ned: You answer questions with questions.
Olive: Maybe I know I have a tell and I know you know I have a tell and maybe I'm doing it now to confuse you because you don't know what tell I'm telling.

(Think American)
Ned: Did I say "can" because I swallow my consonants sometimes? Can't... N'T... come in.

Chuck: You said you wanted to know who killed me so that justice could be served. See, I don't think that "Justice" was on the menu. Maybe as a side dish, but not as an entree.
Ned: It was most definitely an entree. It was a Special of the Day. Could we drop the metaphor?

(Emerson got stucked in the small window trying to escape from a suspicious crime location - is quite angry and stressed about it; wanting to shut Chuck up).
Chuck: Remember, mind over matter will make Pooh unfatter.
Emerson: I might be stucked, but I can still reach my gun.

Emerson: Rhubarb.
Olive: What's that mean?
Emerson: PI secret code for 'get me a damn slice of rhubarb.'
Olive: This isn't Pies r Us, Pie City ... this is a bells on the door, pies-baking, mom and pop place. We chit chat here. Chit!
Emerson: Chat!

Emerson: You can't die of evilness.
Chuck: Happens all the time you do something mean or hurtful to someone like tell a secret... Bang! You're dead.
Olive: Or Bang! You're not really dead you're just pretending to be dead while other people who think you're dead are heartbroken.
Emerson: Or Bang! You talk too much and you both go wait in the car

It is only hilarious if you really understand the atmosphere of such a comical show!!

Movies, Cds and....

Week 3 of university...I know that these weeks will pass by flying colours because I am seriously packed with everything!! From hanging out and catching up with my best buddies to crunching numbers on the computer for my finance assignment....playing hard and working hard!!

I AM soooo bad for sacrificing my sleep for computer games just to calm myself down before I go to sleep!

Anyway,

Everybody has been watching Batman the dark knight. WOW! It must be nice eh?? The movie was so great that people have been harassing me to watch it and watch it on the mega mega screen. I do not want to! Reason: mainly because I have grown up with the comics and original cartoon show, I don't like any adaptations! eg. X-men....it was terrible...end of story.

But more importantly, I don't want to waste my money watching it since I am CONSERVATIVE!
Stop forcing me to watch BATMAN THE DARK KNIGHT!

Speaking of which, I think that I may have been run in to a bit of an irony statement today. I spent $ on House season 1 and 2 plus 2 Westlife CDs!!!

Westlife....the awaited moment where I hoped that prices could go down so that I could buy their cds was seized during a breath-taking episode just today! My breath-taking moment was.....trying to decide which CDs I should buy after finding 4 in a HUGEEEE pile of CD flicking for more than half an hour hehe.

hahaha to be honest....the Warehouse was slashing down sooo many cds and dvds that something as well known and rather expensive (I consider $30 expensive for one dvd) such as...Pirates of the Carribean 2 with an extra disc special edition slashed down to $10.....I just can't say no to that!!!

However, I am always conscious of my spending habits........so I decided that now is just a bit too much for me so I stopped. haha and I do know that the prices will be there for a little while longer so I will just wait for a while.

In the end...I got the 1st and the 2nd CD!

1st CD

2nd CD

And we have this CD from ages ago hehe. LOVELY!

HOUSE!!! WOW! Good thing that my brother turned on the tv because he was curious about it. I SAY....House beats Grey's Anatomy and Scrubs! Maybe because I really like deep emotional sentimental values drawn from each episode. haaha although Scrubs is just entertainment and Grey's Anatomy leans towards the drama side.

Huge Laurie is a brilliant actor! I just find the House drama so real and not unbelievable!! It really captures the essence of paramedics in and out of the hospital rooms, and the solving of very menial and complex errors of the body.

I find it sooooo compelling! Polarity polarity!
From left to right: Foreman, Cameron, Wilson, Chase & Cuddy (last names of course)

hahaha House is tooo relaxed! Having coffee whereas his 'minions' are doing all the work. Love this picture! It is such a crackup.

House 2nd Season cover

Also,

I can't forget the lunch that Sherry shouted me today! THANK YOU honey! hahaha sherry andy and I went to eat at ATT with Taifu's church members. Some of which I haven't caught up with a very long time but have met when we were 10! Yip! Nice to get to know the rest of you! Alan has crazy hair ahha.

GET a hold of this stadium! You know it! The Beijing Olympics 2008 Water Cube!

OH IT IS vibrant! The building itself is filled with millions of optic fibres that gives the stadium a glowing view throughout all 4 of its corners! Spectacular!!!

Well all my ramblings....has come to a halt. Have a good weekend all.
