On/Off openings - Vampire Knight

Oh the lack of updates~ What a busy world. However, I bring you a personal music analysis of both Vampire Knight opening themes! Read it at your leisure.

On/Off is a pop duo consisting of twin brothers who is well-known for singing the opening songs of Vampire Knight + Guilty.

Naoya Sakamoto and Kazuya Sakamoto debuted in 2007.

1st opening of Vampire Knight - Futatsu no Kodou to Akai Tsumi (Two beats and a red sin)
2nd opening of Vampire Knight Guilty - Rinne: Rondo (Cycle: Rondo)

This is a review based off both opening themes of Vampire Knight and Guilty. It comparatively looks at the differences in song composition and the blend between both singers.
  • People who aren't musicians can still understand it!!
  • I am not concerned about the lyrics.
  • Sorry if I sound too meticulous in picking up details and in no way do I want to criticise the effort gone into producing these songs, I just want to be able to practice my musicianship and keep those skills up~

Full lyrics, music and summary are provided under the cut :D

Differences in Vampire Knight anime + manga

This review is based on the 'title'. These are my thoughts and opinions. This post is Highly DANGEROUS and infectious! Its updated with the latest gossip~ It took a lot of effort to write this, I appreciate your comments when you have had a look at it :)

The voice actors/actress of Vampire Knight really suit the style of characters that the author is trying to convey in the manga. The person who does Zero is really versatile too...especially when much is demanded of Zero's character.

With the anime in actual fact, it is enhanced with the mystery of music whereas manga uses definitive shading and angles to convey the storyline and to depict the characters' moods effectively. There are pros and cons to using colour or just black and white.

Colours are more visible and it is easier for us to distinguish objects clearly since we can see colour. However, with the manga using black/white/grey shades, the use of angles to enhance the setting is needed to create a more dramatic atmosphere and sometimes, it can confuse the brain. That was how I felt....which was why I decided to watch the anime because I sometimes cannot tell the difference between Hanabusa Aidou and Akatsuki Cain (plus they use different names at times and its not clear to who is speaking to whom..so that confuses me even more).

MAJOR major Spoilers!!!! Do not reveal if you haven't seen the full anime series or that you have not read up to Chapter 51 of VK manga, you are warned~ As far as I am concerned, I am pretty sure that Chap 45 of VK manga is released before the last episode of Vampire Knight Guilty is made. However, the last 2 episodes of Guilty is actually made up by the producers/directors. Things that I will share are the final battle, love relationships, Kaien Cross, Bloody rose etc.

Vampire Knight Still Doll sheet music

First of all~ I changed my blog picture into Vampire Knight where Yuuki is holding a cello. I love this picture! Its so vibrant and good looking?! haha!

You guys know that I play the cello right???

Arr...do you know how hard it is to find Vampire Knight cello sheet music? Kanon Wakeshima, who is one of the well-known musicians for her cello because of Vampire Knight anime, has finally emerged the anime market using a cello - and not to mention her singing.

So I am now expressing and encouraging more cello music and not just violin for anime! haha~~~

Anyway, if you are looking for the cello sheet music of Vampire Knight Still Doll, it is at http://ichigos.com/sheets/v .You can also find transcribed violin or viola versions as well, so do not worry. It just sounds so much better with the "original" music hehe.

I tried the music last night. Blah...I have gone sooo rusty...I have to work hard to play up to the level that I was once at.

Hope you musicians out there have fun playing it. I wish they had Suna no Oshiro out as well. By the way, I have added Still Doll for you all to listen to on the right hand side. Enjoy!

Vampire Knight + Still Doll

!Updated post here*~ Comments are appreciated~

Vampire Knight is a vampire manga that has been turned into an anime series. It is about a young girl called Yuuki Cross and Zero Kirryu who attend Cross Academy. The academy is dedicated to two classes. Day class - humans and Night class - vampires. It is up to Yuuki and Zero to protect the humans from getting bitten by the vampires and ward off the vampires. They are the only humans to know that the academy consists of both humans and vampires.

Main Characters of the Manga/Anime

The purpose of this academy is to bring harmony between humans and vampires as both groups had a horrific past and feud for centuries. Yuuki & Zero learned how to fight too!

Kaname Kuran is the dorm leader, group leader and representative of the vampires in the Night Class. He is much respected among the vampires.

It is a romance, action and slightly mysterious as you start to uncover the secrets behind the rules and regulations of order among vampires and the different types of vampires.

Vampire Knight Anime.

It is quite a different world with vampiric creatures and like no other! Not like a total western or eastern copy. It has a unique style....but then again this is the first vampiric story that I have come across so I might be wrong. Plus the vampires in this story are not immortal and they age.

OK I don't want to reveal too much but pictures are shown so you can get the general idea. You can read this manga ONEMANGA, the link on the right hand side.

Remember Kanon Wakeshima??? I have uploaded her song Still Doll to my CMO (right hand side). She sings and plays cello in this piece of soundtrack!! Listen Carefully. Here are her lyrics in Japanese and English!

Japanese Romanji

Hi Miss Alice.
Anata garasu no me de
Donna yume wo
Mirareru no?
Miirareru no?

Kokoro ga sakete
Nagarederu

Sukima ni sasaru
Kioku-tachi

Hi Miss Alice.
Anata kajitsu no kuchi de
Dare ni ai o
Nagete iru no?

Still, you do not answer.

Japanese

Hi Miss Alice.
あなた 硝子の眼で
どんな夢を
見られるの?
魅入られるの?
またあたし
こころが裂けて
流れ出る
繕った
隙間に刺さる
記憶たち

Hi Miss Alice.
あなた 果実の口で
誰に愛を
投げているの?
嘆いているの?
もうあたし
言葉を紡ぐ
舌の熱
冷め切って
愛でるお歌も
歌えない
Still, you do not answer.

English translation

Hi Miss Alice.
With glass eyes
What kind of a dream
Are you able to see?
Are you entranced by?
Again for me
My heart tears apart
And flows out
Memories
Pierce into
The mended crevice

Hi Miss Alice.
With a fruitful mouth
To whom are you
Throwing love at?
Grieving love at?
I'm already
Spinning words
The warmth of my tongue
Completely cools
And I can't sing
The song that I adore

Still, you do not answer.

Come to think of it, how come this song's meaning just doesn't fit in to the vampire manga/anime? I am so lost....ahaha it is quite the depressing and creepy song.

Lastly, being a cello player myself, I particularly like this image. Hope you do as well~

Suna no Oshiro -by Wakeshima Kanon

Vampire Knight Guilty has a very interesting ending played by a rising star and cellist (I would say). Her music is quite fresh and many enjoy the essence and the conveyance of emotions/atmosphere that is captured from Vampire Knight & Guilty. I think that classifying this piece as a Gothic type of music is not correct. I don't really think that the vampires portrayed here is gothic because isn't a vampire a fantasy creature that takes on the human form of a vampire bat to begin with?

I think that the big mishap of individuals classifying both gothic and vampire together could be an evolutionary justification because I still don't see how the 2 of them will fit; especially in Vampire Knight. Yes I would agree that the manga/anime is dark but certainly not gothic, even though the story of vampires by this authour reaches a whole new level of fabrication.

What do you think? I have no idea what I am writing haha jot down your opinions/comments.

I have lots of goodies here for those who are into Vampire Knight Guilty Ending - by Kanon Wakeshima. It includes Lyrics + Translation, Video and a song review done by me.

Vampire knight manga and anime characters

Vampire Knight is going well!!! I just finished reading Chap 42 on OneManga (the label on the right hand side). And that is the chapter which was recently uploaded on ONEMANGA! Come on Chap 43 please! It is getting quite exciting! Really appreciate your comments if you have any~

The official website and more is found here. That was where I got all my pictures from!
http://www.vampire-knight.jp/
Except for the manga ones...

There are also news on the website about the superb voices behind the anime. So unlucky that I can't understand Japanese even though I have studied it for quite some time. The website Japanese is way past my Japanese! HERE!!!!

Crew members and the ones up the front are holding the scripts which obviously mean that they are the voices.

Zero Kiryu voice actor, Yuuki Cross voice actress and Kaname Kuran voice actor. Yay

On the website was this cool design...it is actually fortune telling cards. COOL! But man! I keep getting great misfortune!! Aw!!! Why always Akatsuki Cain????! Great Misfortune?! Aw man...

VAMPIRE KNIGHT manga and anime distinctions

The following opinions and comments are made solely on the comparison of these animated images that I have on my blog. Shadows play an important part in conveying moods, and unfortunately, I do not have the time to watch the episodes!! Plus I do not want to spoil the story for many!!! Er...please correct my mistakes.

Also, if you have any comments of your own about what you noticed by the way each character is drawn and express, or any other comments for that matter, you are welcomed!

Yuuki Cross is the main girl of the story. Unfateful twist for her. She looks way better drawn in the manga.

Kaname Kuran....to be honest in the manga, the way Kuran is drawn does portray someone who is certainly in the highest class and hierarchy of vampires. And the personality matches the type of face that is drawn by the artist. Well done!

Zero Kiryu. Poor boy! Oh I like the manga drawings! So gooood! Zero looks so serious in here and superbly drawn! His emotions are conveyed so strongly in the manga with the use of shadows, shading and angles!

Hanabusa Idou is a vampire and a very faithful person. Doesn't he seem reliable??? hahaa does the face say it all?

Akatsuki Cain and his manga form. He is a vampire but I have a hard time distinguishing him and Hanabusa Idou in the manga!! I am not really "up to date" (so to speak) with his character....

Kaien Cross, the father of Yuuki. He is cheerful and always reassuring...my dad is like that too! Wears glasses and has a calm warm face.

Vampire Hunter-
Yagari Touga. He has this sinister look eh? I am not sure whose side he really is on because he can be unpredictable! This manga image depicts it.

Seiren who is a minor character. Vampire too and very serious...she is good at fighting.

Senri Shiki....I am not too sure about his role since him and Hanabusa looks alike at times and I can't distinguish them because I do not pay attention to the specific details (I mean by hair because that is the biggest difference). Ah I can't find a good manga picture without speech bubbles coming in the way heh.

Kiryu Ichiru ( I think ) Twin brother of Zero. He is very cold-hearted and often has a spaced out look at times. None the less he is awesome just like his brother!

Takuma Ichijou looks like Zero's twin! I am not sure if he is up to something bad or not. Maybe he is but he is still under Kaname Kuran....I have no idea eh?

Luca Souen who is in love with Kuran. She plays a very very minor role too!

Rima Touya....new girl? not sure....don't tell me if it will ruin the story for me! But I am sure that she appeared early in the anime so she must be in the manga too! I ccan't remember.....

Ok come to think of it, the animated pictures do not seem to look like the ones in the anime. ahaha.

Kanon Wakeshima Cellist

AHH!! Kanon Wakeshima derived from the name Canon! I stumbled onto her website! She is so talented!! Ok I am copying and pasting all this information about her! She is good at drawing pictures too!!

Her website link: http://www.kanonweb.jp/

Kanon Wakeshima

19 years old, a cello vocalist

Kanon started playing the cello at the age of 3. She began to take full-scale guidance since early of age.

When she was a junior high school student, she formed a cello duo and an ensemble group. At the age of 15, she started playing the baroque cello as part of her classical ensembles. She appeared in many recitals and joint concerts.

She began music creation at the end of the junior high school times, and when she was 16 years old, she sang as a vocalist for the first time on stage of the senior high school festival.

As a multi-talented artist, Kanon joined the Sony Music Audition as a singer. She was one of the finalists and she made a contract with DefSTAR RECORDS.

  • performance musical instrument : cello
  • the opportunity when she began music : the recommendation of cello from her parents
  • the music that she played for the first time : twinkle, twinkle, little star variations
  • memorable song : haydn cello concerto
  • favourite cell player : Jacqueline du Pré
  • favourite musician : Emilie Simon, lily-chou-chou, Mayumi Kojima
  • favorite composer : Debussy, Satie
  • favourite painter : Alfons Maria Mucha
  • favourite colour : red (mostly)
  • hobby / special ability : drawing a picture
“My parents had made up their minds before I was even born that I was to take up music because they’re such great fans of music. They even gave me a musical name. Kanon, is actually taken from canon (and also written as ‘sound of flowers’ in Japanese).”

I watched it just then with a single lamp on and I got scared when my brother came knocking on my door lol. But it is ok!!! Not that scary! The japanese latest fashion is fusing doll-like fashion (lolita) with goth....surprisingly it looks quite cool to me if it is done properly lol. The Japanese are so big on trends!

Some drawings from her blog and she did draw them:

Painter

Random bird but I love the detailed work!

Strawberry Shortcake!

The best one! Snow White
