Suna no Oshiro -by Wakeshima Kanon

Vampire Knight Guilty has a very interesting ending played by a rising star and cellist (I would say). Her music is quite fresh and many enjoy the essence and the conveyance of emotions/atmosphere that is captured from Vampire Knight & Guilty. I think that classifying this piece as a Gothic type of music is not correct. I don't really think that the vampires portrayed here is gothic because isn't a vampire a fantasy creature that takes on the human form of a vampire bat to begin with?

I think that the big mishap of individuals classifying both gothic and vampire together could be an evolutionary justification because I still don't see how the 2 of them will fit; especially in Vampire Knight. Yes I would agree that the manga/anime is dark but certainly not gothic, even though the story of vampires by this authour reaches a whole new level of fabrication.

What do you think? I have no idea what I am writing haha jot down your opinions/comments.

I have lots of goodies here for those who are into Vampire Knight Guilty Ending - by Kanon Wakeshima. It includes Lyrics + Translation, Video and a song review done by me.

Suna no Oshiro (Castle of Sand)

Kanji
そっと流れる
白い
乾いた雲が通る
灰色のわたしは
ただじっと消えて行くのを
見てた

星を集めて
つくる砂のお城に
わたしのささやかな祈り
零れて落ちる
その足元を
待ち伏せた波がさらう

a world of darkness.
a world of silence.

消えかかる祈り
風に煽られながら
それでも灯り続けて
わたしが幾度も縺れながら
冷えゆく手で
つくる砂のお城を
待ち伏せた波がさらう

Quietly flows, a white
dry cloud just passes
An ash colored me is just vanishing quietly

(Chorus)
The stars are collected
in the made "castle of sand"
My little prayer
smashed under those footsteps ambushed and carried by the wave..

a world of darkness...
a world of silence...

in the wind, stirred up
Still, the light is continue
As I tangling many times
By the hand that getting cold

The made "castle of sand"

Here is my song review:

Music
The piece starts off with what you call an "Alberti Bass". This means that there is a musical pattern that acts as the foundation of the music. In this case, it goes through the verses and 'a world of darkness, a world of silence'. Another Alberti Bass intercepts with higher notes and different rhythm in the Chorus.

Violins can also add to the mystifying enigma where the sound of the music is heightened by the violins to give the piece sensitivity to the piece.

Oh who cannot forget about the little cello solo in the middle of the song? Mind you the Alberti Bass is still going on. How could she have fitted that section of fast running notes between the notes of the Alberti Bass?!! I am amazed!

Theme
Is it scary that at the part when she sings 'a world of darkness/silence'? I couldn't even make out the words until now when I retrieved the lyrics. Also, honestly, the Alberti Bass also gives the constant dripping of sand grains in the hour glass. Can you feel it??

Conclusion
The song is fairly simple yet it holds a constant pulsating beat in the background. Playing the cello myself, that Alberti Bass is not that easy to play with even sound and even notes. Quite surprised at the level of intensity that this song gives out with both the instrumental cello and the voice of the singer. Both elements and tone blend well together and I want to see how Kanon will do when she tries different genres of music.

Credit to kooki for the images. Thank you so much and sorry for not asking permission to post these up even though you don't know who I am (person who likes simplicity) XD
