Pushing Daisies in full bloom

This television series is honestly in my opinion one of the best comedic and thrilling shows that I have ever seen in my entire history of watching TV. This post is uncovering certain booming characteristics of Pushing Daisies (didn't i just say blooming?).

Characters:

Ned (Lee Pace) - Pie Hole owner and pie maker, first love is Chuck
Charlotte "Chuck" Charles (Anna Friel) - Ned's childhood sweetheart neighbour brought back to life by Ned
Emerson Cod (Chi McBride) - Private eye detective, Ned's business partner
Vivian Charles (Ellen Greene) - Chuck's aunt
Lily Charles (Swoosie Kurtz) - Chuck's alleged aunt, later revealed to be her biological mother
Olive Snook (Kristin Chenoweth) - Pie Hole waitress, and "hopelessly devoted" to Ned
Digby - Ned's golden retriever

Plot:
Pushing Daisies centers on the life of Ned, a pie-maker gifted with the mysterious ability to bring dead things back to life by touching them. There are some conditions to this somewhat unusual talent. Ned quickly learns that if something is revived for more than exactly one minute, something of similar "life value" in the vicinity drops dead, as a form of balance. Additionally, if he touches the revived person or thing a second time, it falls dead again, this time permanently.
In the pilot episode, Ned discovers his gift as a child by resurrecting his golden retriever, Digby, after the dog is hit by a truck. He later brings back his mother when she dies of aneurysm. However, in doing this, he accidentally causes the death of the father of his neighbor and childhood sweetheart, Charlotte "Chuck" Charles, as the "price" of keeping his mother alive. Even worse, Ned's mother falls dead permanently when she gives him a good-night kiss (which is how he learns the effect of the second touch).
In their childhood, Ned and Chuck become separated after Chuck's agoraphobic aunts, Vivian and Lily move in to take the role of her parents, while Ned is shipped off by his father to a lonely boarding school.
Inheriting his mother's baking talents, Ned becomes a pie-maker who owns a restaurant called "The Pie Hole", which he runs with the help of waitress Olive Snook (Kristen Chenoweth). The restaurant is failing financially when private investigator Emerson Cod accidentally discovers Ned's gift and offers him a proposal: Ned will bring murder victims back to life, inquire about the circumstances of their untimely death, then touch them once more, all before his set limit of sixty seconds is up. Emerson will then solve the case and they will split the reward money for solving the unanswered questions surrounding the death.
The scheme succeeds until they learn that Chuck, whom Ned hasn't seen since childhood, was murdered while on a cruise ship. When her body is shipped back home, Ned revives her, but can't bring himself to allow her to stay dead by touching her a second time. Against his better judgment, Ned allows her to live and the larcenous funeral home director falls dead in her place. Ned and Chuck fall in love again and he brings her home to live with him under the unique circumstances of their never being able to touch each other. Chuck is extraordinarily grateful upon receiving a second chance at life, and as such she starts to appreciate life as a truly precious resource and Ned, witnessing his vivacious beauty's happiness, begins to break out of his lonely shell.

This is where the fun begins!

Quotes from Pushing Daisies!!!!
The best quotes and in my opinion funny are:

Ned: I asked you not to use the word "zombie." It's disrespectful. Stumbling around squawking for brains? It's not how they do. And "undead"? Nobody wants to be "un"-anything. Why begin a statement with a negative? It's like saying "I don't disagree." Just say you agree.
Emerson: Are you comfortable with "living dead"?
Ned: You're either living or your dead. When you're living, you're alive. When you're dead, that's what you are. But when you're dead and then you're not, you're alive again. Can't we say "alive again"?
Emerson: Well, that idea might make a stupid idea feel better about itself.

Emerson: We are giant, enormous idiots. And don't you say "gi-normous" because that ain't a word.

Olive: There are Commandments! We follow all ten, and I am commanding you to stop!

Emerson: Your book was a bomb.
Napoleon: Who are you to criticize my life's work?!
Emerson: Your book was a bomb. It exploded.

Ned: Do you know you have a "tell" when you lie?
Olive: Do I?
Ned: You answer questions with questions.
Olive: Maybe I know I have a tell and I know you know I have a tell and maybe I'm doing it now to confuse you because you don't know what tell I'm telling.

(Think American)
Ned: Did I say "can" because I swallow my consonants sometimes? Can't... N'T... come in.

Chuck: You said you wanted to know who killed me so that justice could be served. See, I don't think that "Justice" was on the menu. Maybe as a side dish, but not as an entree.
Ned: It was most definitely an entree. It was a Special of the Day. Could we drop the metaphor?

(Emerson got stucked in the small window trying to escape from a suspicious crime location - is quite angry and stressed about it; wanting to shut Chuck up).
Chuck: Remember, mind over matter will make Pooh unfatter.
Emerson: I might be stucked, but I can still reach my gun.

Emerson: Rhubarb.
Olive: What's that mean?
Emerson: PI secret code for 'get me a damn slice of rhubarb.'
Olive: This isn't Pies r Us, Pie City ... this is a bells on the door, pies-baking, mom and pop place. We chit chat here. Chit!
Emerson: Chat!

Emerson: You can't die of evilness.
Chuck: Happens all the time you do something mean or hurtful to someone like tell a secret... Bang! You're dead.
Olive: Or Bang! You're not really dead you're just pretending to be dead while other people who think you're dead are heartbroken.
Emerson: Or Bang! You talk too much and you both go wait in the car

It is only hilarious if you really understand the atmosphere of such a comical show!!

魔法生活王 (Magic King of Life) - Rid of Cockroaches!

HA!!! This time, the show have produced some really awesome tips on how to tackle cockroaches that can't seem to be found in the most obvious places in the house but the oddest places in your house!

I really hate anything that is 6-legged or 8-legged insects/spiders that moves in an untimely and "unfashionable" (a metaphor for gross) manner.

This is what the show recommend using:
ALCOHOL + sugar
SOAPY WATER and a type of fruit skin but I didn't really catch it because it only keeps them away and not kill or trap them haha.

Let's see if you can make out how alcohol and soapy water stop, hinder, distract, or kill a cockroach??? Read more to find out the answer!

魔法生活王 Magic King of Life - Unscrewing lightbulbs and dealing with leftover rice

Another post about 魔法生活王 - Magic King of Life!!!! haha it is sooo funny!!

First Problem:
Screwing and unscrewing a light bulb from a high ceiling without a higher chair for you to reach up and do it by hand.

Tools:
Umbrella, Plastic drink bottle with 4 corners and band-aids.

Can you take a guess as to how they can use these tools to screw or unscrew a light bulb?

Second Problem:
What will you do about the leftover rice from dinner???! Throw it away?

Equipment:
Blender

Hint - it is a type of food that I am craving at the moment in summer because it is sooo hot.

Answer to 1)
man this is a little hard to explain but here goes!

Cut off about 2 centimetres of the end of a plastic bottle fully. Turn it upside down and place a band-aid over the protruding bump. Then with the bump facing towards you, push it mid-way into the bottle. The bottle's neck is where you can insert the umbrella and it touches the concave bump; whereas the other side is where you can place your light bulb (bottom touching the band-aid) and the socket facing upwards, ready for you to screw it to the ceiling. AND YOU ARE ready to change light bulbs.

Reason:
The bottom of the light bulb is touching the band-aid to produce friction so that when you use the completed mechanism, the light bulb won't twist along with the mechanism. Therefore, you cannot forget about the band-aid. The mechanism can also unscrew light bulbs. Make sure that if you are going to do this, the umbrella should fit through the bottle neck.

Answer to 2)
Leftover rice can be used to make ICE-CREAM!!! And here is how.

Add to the blender:
100g Rice
100cc Cream
200cc Milk
Melter sugar (syrup) - depending on how sweet you want it to be

  • Blend all ingredients until there are no 'bits' of rice.
  • Then...pour it into a container and freeze it.

Tips

  • Ratio of 1:1:2
  • Rice:Cream:Milk
This formula is very helpful. If you want to have different ice-cream flavour, add different flavour milk and add fruits. e.g. strawberry.

Man I am so impressed with what you can do with the tools that you are given and the type of food that you can make from just leftover rice!!! Good eh??? I am so happy to be watching this kind of show because it reduce, reuse and recycles very well and is always trying to be clean and tidy.

Although it is at that time again where too much should not be revealed. haha this took me a long time to see how I should use the images to provide some but not all of the story. Since it is difficult for me to do that, I am sure that this holds plenty of surprises. So don't be afraid to watch it haha. *Shocked from so many surprises* Anyway, the story still continues with Otoya's past. Reveal full post to read it.

Suna no Oshiro -by Wakeshima Kanon

Vampire Knight Guilty has a very interesting ending played by a rising star and cellist (I would say). Her music is quite fresh and many enjoy the essence and the conveyance of emotions/atmosphere that is captured from Vampire Knight & Guilty. I think that classifying this piece as a Gothic type of music is not correct. I don't really think that the vampires portrayed here is gothic because isn't a vampire a fantasy creature that takes on the human form of a vampire bat to begin with?

I think that the big mishap of individuals classifying both gothic and vampire together could be an evolutionary justification because I still don't see how the 2 of them will fit; especially in Vampire Knight. Yes I would agree that the manga/anime is dark but certainly not gothic, even though the story of vampires by this authour reaches a whole new level of fabrication.

What do you think? I have no idea what I am writing haha jot down your opinions/comments.

I have lots of goodies here for those who are into Vampire Knight Guilty Ending - by Kanon Wakeshima. It includes Lyrics + Translation, Video and a song review done by me.

魔法生活王 (Magic King of Life) - Hot plates from the microwave

Since I was out on Thursday night, I missed that one. But I have not forgotten the one on Friday night. This time, the show presents a very smart idea but I am totally against it! I will make it short here.

Problem:
Microwaving a plate of frozen food - when you can take the plate out of the microwave, its too hot for you to touch

Answer:
Used plastic wrap and instead of covering the whole sides of the plates, they cover 2 sides across and the remainder...is folded next to the food. The exposed part of the plate is cooler than the food cooked inside because the plastic wrap maintains all the heat and vapour in. So if you do not cover the plate fully with plastic wrap, you are able to remove it from the microwave easily.

But I wouldn't use it because it uses plastic wrap.

魔法生活王 (Magic King of Life) - Pork Spiced Buns

Mum and I made these the other night where we watched really amazing stuff from this Taiwan show called 魔法生活王; the literal translation: The Magic King of Life.

haha it is not about magic as in magicians but the show delivers and promotes ways of saving, using up resources smartly and basically simplifying life everyday. I guess I am quite interested in it and will most likely blog about it in the future.

http://www.settv.com.tw/metro/m109/

And this is one of my favourite shows despite it being for kids but I really find it hilarious and easy to understand (mandarin not being one of my strongest points). Although I will not be attempting the actual 'magic' myself for most of it, there is no harm in blogging about it.

Maybe I will do that one day and will show it with visuals. haha! Then towards the end of the show, both the guy and girl will introduce something very interesting that is either a type of toy or something that will prove to be useful anytime. Its so funny because when they promote the object in the beginning, the have a really really long name for it to describe its attributes. The guy can't really say it even though it is written up on the screen ahahaha! Poor him, only learnt chinese during high school so you can't really blame him lol. But it is worth the laughs!

Some of the most notable things in my opinion that they proposed:
  • Making your own wrapping paper by printing out whatever cool stuff you have stored up at home; e.g. colourful buttons or glitter stickers or coloured pins
  • Using already-made pudding from a container, waffle corn powder and a microwave to make pudding into a cake; yummy!
  • Instead of having brain freeze just from frozen juice, boil the juice and add cotton candy, then cool, and freeze it. It becomes very soft and anyone can eat it without sensitive teeth
  • Using a plastic bag and straw to add in air to inflate a beach balloon that is not designed for a person to do so
  • making exercise equipment out of sponge mat and stretchy rope.
  • Memorising and remembering effectively by covering your ears and reciting loudly (it works)
etc.

Anyway, here is one that mum and I tried out from the show: a recipe.....
